Wahana antariksa buatan swasta bernama Odysseus berhasil mendarat di permukaan Bulan, menandai kembalinya Amerika Serikat ke satelit Bumi itu setelah lebih dari 50 tahun. Pendaratan yang berlangsung selama 73 menit itu merupakan momen tegang, tetapi akhirnya, wahana antariksa tersebut sukses mendarat di dekat kutub selatan Bulan.

Namun, kemudian Intuitive Machines, perusahaan berbasis di Texas yang membangun wahana antariksa komersial pertama yang mendarat di Bulan, mengatakan bahwa wahana tersebut "berdiri tegak dan para manajer misi sedang bekerja untuk mengirimkan data dan gambar pertama dari permukaan Bulan".

Pendaratan ini menjadi yang pertama kalinya wahana antariksa buatan Amerika Serikat mendarat di bulan sejak Apollo 17, dan adalah tonggak penting karena merupakan wahana komersial pertama yang berhasil mendarat setelah kegagalan pendaratan Peregrine bulan lalu.

Bill Nelson, selaku administrator NASA, menyebut pendaratan Odysseus sebagai "kemenangan" dan "loncatan besar bagi seluruh umat manusia." NASA memberikan kontribusi sebesar USD 118 juta untuk peluncuran Odysseus, yang merupakan bagian dari inisiatif layanan muatan lunar komersial NASA (CLPS).
