Amerika Serikat - Turki menerbangkan astronaut pertamanya ke Stasiun Luar Angkasa Internasional dengan kapsul SpaceX. Hal ini menandai tonggak sejarah program luar angkasa Turki.

Astronaut pertama Turki, Alper Gezeravsi dan tiga anggota awak lainnya yang mewakili Eropa diluncurkan dari Florida pada Kamis (18/1) dalam perjalanan ke Stasiun Luar Angkasa Internasional (ISS). Ini merupakan misi terbaru yang diatur secara komersial dari startup Texas, Axiom Space.

Kapsul SpaceX Crew Dragon yang membawa kuartet Axiom lepas landas sekitar satu jam sebelum matahari terbenam dari Kennedy Space Center NASA di Cape Canaveral, memulai penerbangan yang direncanakan selama 36 jam ke laboratorium yang mengorbit.

Misi tersebut adalah penerbangan ketiga yang diselenggarakan oleh Axiom yang berbasis di Houston selama dua tahun terakhir ketika perusahaan tersebut membangun bisnisnya dengan menempatkan astronaut yang disponsori oleh pemerintah asing dan perusahaan swasta ke orbit Bumi.
