Italia - Pusat Dirgantara Jerman menguji robot yang dikendalikan jarak jauh di gunung api teraktif Eropa yakni Gunung Etna, Italia. Robot itu untuk misi ruang angkasa.

Ilmuwan dari Badan Antariksa Eropa (ESA) dan Pusat Dirgantara Jerman menguji robot yang dikendalikan dari jarak jauh untuk eksplorasi ruang angkasa masa depan di Gunung Etna, Italia, Kamis, (23/6/2022).

Uji coba dilakukan pada ketinggian 2.600 meter di lereng gunung berapi Sisilia. Uji coba ini untuk mensimulasikan situasi yang akan dihadapi astronaut pada misi di bulan atau dalam eksplorasi Mars.

Para ilmuwan memilih Gunung Etna karena memiliki permukaan dan kondisi yang serupa dengan bulan. Hal tersebut juga memenuhi persyaratan geologis dari misi bulan yang sebenarnya.

Proyek bernama ARCHES ini adalah proyek multi-lembaga yang dihidupkan oleh DLR bekerja sama dengan Badan Antariksa Eropa (ESA) dan difokuskan pada pemantauan lingkungan lautan, eksplorasi Tata Surya, dan intervensi krisis di tempat-tempat yang akan terlalu berbahaya bagi manusia untuk bekerja.
