RIM Tangkis Hoax BBM di Amerika dan Asia

Jakarta - Rumor tentang 'inactive user' di BlackBerry Messenger (BBM) ternyata cukup membuat pihak Research in Motion (RIM) gerah. Prinsipal ponsel cerdas asal Kanada ini pun dibuat sibuk untuk menangkis isu itu. Tak hanya di Indonesia, namun juga di Amerika dan Asia.

Belakangan ini, banyak beredar pesan berantai di kalangan pengguna BlackBerry Messenger yang isinya kurang lebih seperti ini:

Hello, greetings from RIM (Research In Motion) proprietors of BlackBerry.

This message is to inform all of our users, that our servers have recently been really full, so we are asking for your help to fix this problem. We need our active users to re-send this message to everyone on your contact list inorder to confirm our active users that use BlackBerry Messenger, if you do not send this message to all your BlackBerry Messenger contacts then your account will remain inactive with the consequence of losing all your contacts.

Regional Vice President Asia Pacific RIM Gregory Wade memohon kepada para pengguna BlackBerry agar tak langsung percaya dan berhenti mem-broadcast pesan berantai tersebut.

"Itu hanya hoax dan fabrikasi belaka," kata Greg, demikian ia akrab disapa, kepada detikINET, Jumat (9/4/2010).

Untuk menangkis isu ini, lanjut dia, pihak RIM sudah coba mengklarifikasinya lewat situs jejaring Facebook. "Kami telah mem-posting pesan di Facebook Fan Page kami untuk wilayah Amerika Utara bahwa BBM trail ini hanya hoax. Sekarang kami juga sedang meng-update untuk wilayah Asia," pungkas Greg. (rou/ash)
